Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

These are thin wafer-like shells that are custom-made in the lab or using the in-house milling to fit on the tooth.

Advantages of porcelain veneers

  • They are highly resistant to stains
  • They are natural looking and mimic natural teeth very closely
  • They are very durable and wear resistant and last a long time
  • Very minimal tooth preparation needs to be done saving loads of your natural tooth
  • Steps to place porcelain veneers
  • Anesthesia may or may not be necessary as the preparation is confined to enamel. Teeth that will receive veneers are prepared very minimally or not at all. This provides space for the veneer.
  • A digital scan of the tooth is then made and the shade chosen as per your natural tooth.
  • The digital scan is then either sent to the lab or designed in the office to be sent to the mill where the veneer is made. If the in-office mill is used, the veneers are ready on the same day with no need for temporaries, however, if it is sent to the lab then the dentist will make temporary veneers for you until the permanent ones are back from the lab.
  • Once the permanent veneers are back, the temporaries are removed and the prepared teeth are cleaned. The permanent veneers are then bonded onto the teeth and adjusted accordingly.

Composite resin veneers

These veneers are made from a tooth-colored filling material that are bonded to the tooth. They can be either placed directly on the teeth or made in the lab

Composite veneers have some advantages:

  • They are cheaper than porcelain/ceramic veneers
  • Fewer visits are needed to get this done as compared to porcelain veneers
  • They can be fixed easily without having to make a completely new one as you would with porcelain ones.
  • Steps to place composite resin veneers:

  • After preparing the teeth, composite material is placed on the teeth and shaped to achieve the desired result with the same shade as your natural teeth.
  • Blue light is then shined onto the composite material to harden it.
  • The restorations are then finished and polished to get the highest translucency mimicking natural teeth.

As with all other restorations in the mouth, veneers need great care before and after placing them.

Your teeth and gums must be healthy and free of any cavities and gum disease. If you do have any of that, then they will need to be treated before doing veneers.

After placing them, you must brush and floss just like how you do with your natural teeth.

In case you grind your teeth, an occlusal guard is highly recommended to prevent any chipping or fracture of the veneer.

Veneers can become loose over time, if that happens then you can come visit us and get them rebonded to the teeth.

Teeth Whitening

Wanting a brighter smile? Visit us at The Dental Suite where we will transform your covered smile into a confident one.

Teeth whitening is a process where the stains and discolouration in teeth are broken down using oxygen releasing agents to make them brighter and whiter. It is one of the most desired cosmetic dentistry treatment which is quick, affordable and non-invasive.

This process works great for teeth that are healthy, without any restorations and disease free mouths. This treatment is used on select individuals that would benefit from it, which means not everyone is going to be a suitable candidate for it.

There are many whitening products available over the counter as well as at The Dental Suite. Depending on the type of product used and the coloring in food and drinks, the effects can range for a day to about 6 months. These products can be in the form of toothpastes, gels, stips, mouthrinses and products applied on trays worn over the teeth.

Tooth Discoloration: Extrinsic vs. Intrinsic Staining

Teeth can have either extrinsic and intrinsic stains.

Extrinsic stains are those that are present on the external surface of teeth due to smoking, foods and color containing drinks. Some stains can be minor and removed easily while brushing or after a dental hygiene cleaning. Others can be very stubborn and would need more effort to remove them with procedures such as whitening. As the stains on the external surface of teeth stay on for a long time, they can penetrate into the tooth and become intrinsic stains.

Intrinsic stains are those that are present on the inside of teeth. These can be caused by a variety of reasons such as following trauma to the tooth, darkened teeth due to age, and following use of certain medications such as tetracycline during tooth development as well as in teeth exposed to excessive amounts of fluoride. These stains are much more difficult to remove and would need longer whitening treatments, while others would need treatments like dental veneers.

At The Dental Suite, we offer 2 types of whitening:

In-office whitening

This is done in the office while the patient is seated on the dental chair. Results are visible almost immediately because high concentrations of peroxide gels are used. Gums are around the teeth to be bleached are protected using a barrier, and the gel is then applied to the teeth at 15-20 minute intervals for about an hour. This treatment can then be complemented with the home kit to have a more lasting effect.

Professionally Dispened Take Home Kits

These are kits dispensed in office by the dentist. This treatment provides excellent results that last for long time. A digital scan of your teeth is taken and bleaching trays that are custom fabricated for you are made. The trays are then tried in your mouth to check the fit. Once verified, the trays and take hot kit containing a lower concentration of peroxide is provided to you with instructions on how to use.
